OUR PRINCIPLES

Connectedness Transformation Expression Custodianship

The NCIE’s approach draws on our timeless principles of connectedness, transformation, expression and custodianship. When we are delivering programs, promoting thought leadership, managing our enterprises or encouraging social investment, we are always conscious of these principles.

CONNECTEDNESS

We believe in a holistic approach seeing the interconnections, complexities and dynamics of people, situations and systems. Most important in this sense, are the connections to country, community, culture and commerce. We work in collaboration and believe in the collective impact model for finding tightly networked and sustainable solutions that deliver broad based social impact.

TRANSFORMATION

We believe transformation is an ever present process and a delicate balance between gradual steps and bold shifts. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders have had the benefit of innumerable iterations. Trial and error with purpose and liberal tinkering has always been the most effective way to explore, develop and test new solutions in an uncertain and changing world. The NCIE continues this approach launching and learning in partnership with people and organisations in order to constantly evaluate, adapt and improve programs.

EXPRESSION

We value all forms of expression and try to promote oral, visual and physical communication. We believe these forms of expression can often articulate deeper levels and more layers of meaning than the written word.

CUSTODIANSHIP

We draw on perennial Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander wisdom, knowledge and culture. We think long into the past and far into the future when considering plans of action. We think about how our decisions transcend beyond the present. We know we are stewards of our country and our culture.
